Let go of the lies that keep you small and hidden
This week’s self healing tip: if you believe something about yourself that makes you feel like hiding, find a way to let it go. It is not your truth.
Only you can let go of the lies that hold you back, but you will need to first face them directly. What is this lie telling you? Do you know who or where it came from? Does it have a face and/or voice behind it?
Maybe you believed something someone told you a long long time ago, almost out of memory’s reach, and you’re still holding onto it as if it were your present time truth. You might have used it, this lie you are holding onto, as a support or crutch, an excuse. You thought it protected you, because you weren’t ready / good enough / perfect / rich enough / popular enough / smart enough, to be who and what you want to be.
Now is the time to take stock and notice what old ideas about yourself you’re keeping close to your heart, the ones that don’t work for you any more.
Perhaps they felt protective of you at one time, but now they just suck your resolve away, deflate your inspired ideas, and kick your commitment to the curb. It’s time to do some serious house keeping, and dump that old energy out of your space.
You are the only one who has the power to let go of the lies that hold you back.
Whenever you find yourself thinking “but everybody knows it’s not possible” or “I’m not enough _________ to have my dream”, you are believing an untruth. And you are holding this lie up as a shield to protect yourself from taking a step forward into the scary unknown, which is another way of saying, into your own truth.
You may not be doing it consciously. When you were a child, you wanted to know and understand life’s mysteries and meaning. You learned by watching the world around you, including all of the people you knew. Because you wanted to be loved and included, sometimes you adjusted what you knew to be true for you, in order to receive the love and approval you wanted from others.
As a child, you became aware that some of the people you knew had very strong ideas about what is possible and what is not.
Sometimes they became dismissive when you told them what you wanted to be when you grew up. Their own abandoned dreams safely tucked away for when they ‘reached retirement’, they went on to explain to you How The World Works, and that it works so much better if you find a nice safe stable job that may not be exciting but will pay the bills. Because it makes more sense to do this than to follow your joy and bliss.
The unsaid, untrue, invalidation here is that what you love and want to do will never pay the bills, so it’s not even worth trying. Yes, you may need and want to have many different jobs along the way on your path, and that’s all true and fine. Just don’t use any of this to convince yourself that it’s not worth doing what you love anyway. It is always worth living from your truth.
If you’ve become aware of the fact that this energy has been there and that you’ve been using it to hide behind, or stop yourself in some way from being seen, perhaps you can find a way to release it, and to free yourself from its hold on you.
If you are walking on a path created with faith in yourself, and trust in your own truth, you will succeed. Just by doing this, you are succeeding, no matter how others judge or measure that success.
